About This Page
The main subject of this page is me, Nicholas Huertas, photographed in three different cities while travelling during my studies. Each photo was cut out of its original background in Photopea and exported as a transparent PNG, so that the same subject can sit on top of a new scene.
The image changes with the size of your screen. On mobile (small.png) you see a head-and-shoulders close-up taken at sunset in Palma de Mallorca, because a tight crop keeps my face readable on a narrow screen. On tablet (medium.png) you see a three-quarter pose of me leaning on the riverside wall in Budapest. On desktop (large.png) you see the widest framing, walking up the street at Pike Place Market in Seattle, which uses the extra space on a large monitor.
The CSS background image (bg.jpg) behind the cut-outs depicts the Hungarian Parliament across the Danube. It is softly blurred so it reads as a backdrop rather than competing with the subject, and the travel setting ties the three photos together as one story about studying abroad.
